Mario Kart ds is an exceptional game. There's no
two ways about it. The format remains the same,
but with each incarnation the game improves
slighly, and this ds version is no different. All
your favourite characters are here, with some
extras thrown in. At the start of the game there
are 6 characters, and 24 tracks to choose from.
In its full unlocked state, the game offers 12
characters and 32 tracks. Not including the mirror
mode. Which effectively doubles the amount of
tracks. There is also the option to choose different
karts for your character, introducing a slight
tactical element to the game, but in reality,
seasoned players will more than likely see this as
little more than a gimmick. All three cc classes are
here too, 50, 100 and 150. As-well as the time
trial. Retro fans will be satisfied too, with the
inclusion of 4 tracks from each of nintendo's retro
consoles; the GBA, the SNES, the N64 and the
GameCube. The staff ghosts are in there too, so
replay value is good. In short, Mario Kart ds is a
game that will provide hours and hours of fun.
Well worth the money, and definately a keeper.
Highly recommended.

I purchased this for my six year old an he has had a lot of fun playing it, definitely worth the money paid for it.Unfortunately the first one I received did not work even though the seller tests each one before shipping, however they did redeem their selves and sent another one that did work.

Mario kart ds is nintendo at its best. The whole game is just utter brilliance in my oppinion. From the moment you turn it on you know its going to be good. The music is flawless, the controls are tight and the gameplay is perfect. The base of the game is racing around on 36 courses. However the aim of each race is to obiously stay in front, this is where the mario magic comes in. The power ups. Everyone on the track will use various power ups (including yourself)to make sure the person in front will be thrown about and pushed back. The game is absoloutly chaotic and fast paced! The idea is one moment you are in the lead by a long way and perhaps moments later you will be blown up into sixth place.
The tracks are as enjoyable as the racing. They consist of 16 new ones and 16 from previous games (retro courses)The new ones are made perfectly and are an absoloute joy to drive on. My personal faverioute is "walluigi pinball" This course is based in a pinball arcade machine and has a vegas feal to it with the flashy lights and huge bumpers that smash you around the course! The course starts off good as it shoots you up a long tunnel that has rainbow lights flashing all over the place! Fantastic!
There are 36(ish) karts to get to grips with and 12 mario charecters for you to play as. Each has there own personal skill. Peach is good at powersliding, Yoshi has fine grip and toad has good acceleration. There is so much to do in this game as there are 3 difficulty styles of racing. 50cc (for noobs) 100cc (for the average player) and 150cc (for the skilled hardcore) If you manage to complete them all you will unlock the mirror cup which is all the tracks in reverse!!
Another good addition is the kart emblem customiser. This lets you customise your own eblem that gets embarked onto your kart. You can design it anyway you want!
If you crave for more there is even a mission mode where you complete various missions like driving through 10 rings or so.
One of my faverioute additions is the battle mode. There are two styles. 1:shine runners. This is where you have to collectt objects called shines and you must try and steal your opponents and have the most at the end to win. 2: balloon runners. I love this! You have 5 balloons and you must have at least one on your kart to stay in the game. Blow into the mic to blow up more balloons. The objective is to pop your opponents balloons by using power ups against them. If you are the last man standing you win. If you want a hard meaty challenge go on the battle mode and select hard cpu, random courses and team off. Then the mode becomes a game of raw hardcore skill. A real good challenge.
There is just so much to the game it would take a whole page to fill this in. To summerise. If havent got it get now. If you need a ds get one now! If you are bored of this get mario kart wii! (perhaps even better)

My 7 year old always gravitates to this game and says it's her favourite (and amongst her friends too) there are lots of games with different tracks it's a classic "game" in that you are a character and race against other characters (mario, princess peach, toad, etc.,) and is fast paced and hard to play if you are a novice but you can pick it up rather quickly. The farther you advance the more racetrack options you receive and the more characters you can become. This is well worth getting if you are thinking of getting a DS for your 5+ year old.
